patient care

Therapies

In addition to comprehensive medical and nursing care, many patients benefit from therapeutic interventions provided by licensed therapists or, when that level of expertise is not required, by specially trained volunteers.

Physical, Occupational and Speech Therapy

For patients nearing the end of life, physical, speech and occupational therapy are usually more burdensome than helpful. However, each patient’s needs are unique. If one of these therapies will enhance the patient’s quality of life, Hospice will arrange for it to be provided.

Massage Therapy

Some patients have severe pain or muscle constriction that is alleviated by the healing touch of our professional massage therapists. Others enjoy a soothing foot or hand massage provided by hospice aides or specially trained volunteers.

Music Expression

Music helps improve communication, relieve stress and improve quality of life for patients who can benefit from this special type of intervention. Other patients enjoy music enrichment through our volunteer-led music programs or special visits from our musician volunteers.

Art Expression

Art can become a meaningful form of expression for patients who are processing thoughts and feelings that occur during their time on hospice. With the help of volunteers, they may be inspired to create a gift for a loved one that will become a cherished keepsake.
