Does Being Non-Profit Hospice Make A Difference?

The influx of hospices now serving our community has caused confusion about providers. Who delivers better care? What is the difference? Does it matter if the hospice is for profit or non-profit?

A good rule of thumb is that for the most part non-profit hospices provide more patient visits, accept more complex/costly cases, use more resources, invest more in staff expertise, provide greater access to care and have inpatient care centers.

To take that one step further, legacy non-profit hospices also have legitimate palliative care programs, offer professional and community education, provide more robust bereavement services, have better-trained, more integrated volunteer programs and participate in community leadership and collaboration opportunities.

All of the above are extremely valuable when choosing the best hospice care for yourself or a loved one. As the area’s legacy, non-profit hospice, Hospice of Northwest Ohio offers all of these services.

We encourage you to interview prospective hospices before making the choice for care. Ask about the above services and how they deliver them. This will ensure you get the right care at the right time.
