"Tanner" and "Sam" Provide Canine Comfort
Among the most popular members of our staff are our two therapy dogs, Tanner and Sam. Both have been specially trained by Assistance Dogs of America to provide comfort, support and a sense of home-like normalcy to the patients and families who stay at the Hospice Centers.

Tanner, a golden retriever, joined us in the summer of 2001 at the Perrysburg Center. He was a bit frisky when he first arrived, but under the guidance of his mentor, Pepper, learned the ropes and has become a genuine part of the team. Tanner enjoys laying in the hallways and greeting all of the visitors and staff who pass by.

Sam, also a golden retriever, moved into the Toledo Center in November of 2004. His energy is felt throughout the building and visitors often ask specifically to see him when they are in building. The walls of Sam's room are covered with drawings and photos given to him by families – especially children – who came to know and love him during their time at the Center.

Pepper, a black, flat-coated retriever, arrived shortly after the Perrysburg Center opened in 1995 and over the years, won the hearts of hundreds of patients and family members. She also won numerous awards for the very special work she did at Hospice. Pepper passed away in 2004, but will never be forgotten.
