Hospice Offers Tips for Grieving at the Holidays

Whether the loss of a loved one is recent or occurred some time ago, the holidays place additional demands on our time and emotions.

Says Hospice of Northwest Ohio Bereavement Counselor, Char Brock “It can be helpful for bereaved individuals to consider ahead of time what may be expected, both socially and emotionally, as well as consider their own expectations. It is okay to make alternative plans for the holidays, to celebrate in a different way, and to set limitations.”

Hospice of Northwest Ohio’s team of bereavement counselors suggests the following for those coping with holiday grief:

  • Stay in touch with your feelings
  • Plan ahead
  • Simplify holiday traditions
  • Alter you gift giving
  • Open up
  • Protect your emotional and physical wellbeing
  • Look for an alternative plan for this year
  • Look for support
  • Rekindle the holiday spirit
