Volunteers provide assistance with a wide variety of patient, family and general support duties -- enabling Hospice of Northwest Ohio to make every patient's end-of-life journey meaningful.
Becoming a Hospice Adult Volunteer
Adult volunteers play an integral role in the hospice program and function as part of our interdisciplinary team. Those who choose to work directly with patients and families must complete a training course comprised of 24 classroom hours. Classes are generally conducted in eight, three-hour sessions over a period of weeks, and are offered both days and evenings. Volunteers then continue to meet monthly to further their education and receiv
e support.
Most adult volunteers spend four hours, or less, per week fulfilling their volunteer commitments to Hospice.
New volunteer training classes are formed several times each year, or as a particular need arises. At this time, our greatest need is for home care and nursing faciility volunteers who are willing to work with patients living in all areas of Northwest Ohio and Monroe County, Michigan.
Volunteering 101 classes are held the first Thursday of each month from 7 - 8 p.m. at the Perrysburg Hospice Center -- 30000 East River Road, Perrysburg and from 1 - 2 p.m. at the Toledo Hospice Center -- 800 South Detroit Avenue, Toledo. These informational sessions will allow those interested in volunteering for Hospice of Northwest Ohio to get an overview of the volunteer program and learn more about how to get involved.
